Lankan Tamils must get equality: Pranab Mukherjee

E-mail Print
Sri Lanka must make efforts to provide its Tamil minority "a life of peace, dignity and equality", President Pranab Mukherjee said Thursday.

The president told parliament that India was making progress in its engagement with Sri Lanka.

This involved "our efforts to resettle and rehabilitate the internally displaced persons there", he said, referring to thousands who were pushed out of their homes due to the war on the Tamil Tigers.

The president made no reference in his speech to allegations of human rights abuses that Sri Lanka is battling, including the alleged cold-blooded killing of the 12-year-old son of the slain Tamil Tigers chief. (IANS)

Mr Mukherjee. Come to Sea Street Pettah and tell us if there is equality or not. This is just one example. I can give you more if necessary.

Dear Mukheegy, inhuman things were also happened when the IPKF was their. It was well known that the bomber "Dhanu" had been raped by the "peace keepers", so she was specially selected for that "mission of revenge" by "Prabha"and he wanted to teach a lesson to "Rajive" from a victimized woman. You Indians have forgotten the recent history very soon. But this war history is very interesting and good to remind us from time to time or annually like this. Don`t you think so.?

Jayantha Silva, you are a silly man. Untouchables are not equal because they are not high caste Hindus. You must know that if they are not equal to high caste Hindhus then there is no obligation to give them equal rights. Same applies to Muslims, Christians, Budhists and other inferior castes. This is how India has been for centuries and will keep it that way. This Mukerjee fellow forgot to say equal rights to only high caste Tamils.

Our country does not have strong opposition parties to fight for the minorities, therefore let at least India take up minority issues without fear.

when we talk about Buddhism receive from India and well established in Sri Lanka, eradication of social inequality highly accepted by this doctrine if you apply Buddhist ethics no wonder for that and being a majority of the people represent Buddhism there is no argument for inequality , be a true Buddhist then problem will be solved
