If the actors and cricketers can join the parliament with no what so ever qualification what's wrong in appointing an educated man as the BOI chairman? Seriously! :)

Judging from recent appointments and sackings, if he does a good job and doesnt bend to politicians he'll be back in the land of kangaroos in a couple of months.

Good on you Laksman Jayaweera, we know you. Use your talents to keep the BoI away from corrupt people. That will be your main task if you want to do an honest service to SriLanka. Please remember that SriLanka is not like Australia. There will be political pressure to do corrupt deals. So please be careful about your good name.

Only in Sri Lanka ... a Chemical Engineer can head the BOI, a college graduate can become a director of MNC, a School Leaver can become an astronaut and a Idiot can become a Parliamentarian ! Wonder of Asia and the power of influence.

Chemical engineer should head our Energy sector and not BOI. We can build renewable energy (SOLAR energy, which is found in abundance in our country)...

Why was this post given to an academic with actual corporate experience? This flies right in the face of our culture! It's outrageous! Sack him at once and install a close relative of Mahinda's!

Some of the comments made here are out of malice or sheer ignorance. Lkashman J is an extraordinarily successful businessman in Sydney and happens to be a chemical engineer. His expertise is in entrepreneurshi p and is eminently suited for the job.I wish there were no ignorant carping criticisms such as we have seen in some of the comments.

Dear Dr you should know about this government before taking this Job, if you work genuinely/honestly, then you may be sacked or may required to face impeachment like what append to former CJ

I am very dissapointed to read some of these stupid negative comments about Lakshman. I have known Lakshman for a long time in Sydney and closely associated him and his family. Lakshman is a great gentleman, and well respected by the Sri Lankan community in Australia. Please dear editor stop publishing these idiotic negative comments from some of our stupid Sri Lankans. I am very happy that Lakshman has now got the opportunity to help Sri Lanka. I wish him and the BOI all the best for the future.

It's great that this forum reflects freedom of speech and expression which is very rare these days. People should be free to voice their opinion ( whether its malicious or derogatory is another matter). A person's suitability should not be judged merely by one's academic credentials. Lakshman's contribution to this role will show if if he is capable or not in due course. Attraction of foreign investment to a country is influenced mainly by government policies and the political environment itself. This establishment (BOI) is a gatekeeper.
Wishing him success in his appointment .
