SL beat Australia by four wickets

E-mail Print
Sri Lanka defeated Australia by four wickets after bowling out the home side for an embarrassing 74 in the third one-day international at the Gabba on Friday to take a 2-1 series lead.

An in-swinging onslaught from Sri Lanka's bowlers led to the demolition of the home side in 26.4 overs, their lowest ODI score for 27 years.

At one stage Australia were 40-9 before putting on 34 for the last wicket. Nuwan Kulasekara took five for 22 and Lasith Malinga picked up 3-14.

In their reply Sri Lanka also struggled against hostile bowling but reached their target with an astonishing 30 overs remaining.

Australia's Mitchell Johnson found plenty of movement, taking 3-11 in three overs.

The next match is at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday and the final game is in Hobart on Wednesday.

Match scores: Australia 74 all out (26.4 overs); Sri Lanka 75 for six (20 overs).(AFP)

Low scoring thriller it was, Good show by SL Team in the end. This tour is an eye opener for the selectors; we have a lot of young talents in the Island, Time to give all talented youngsters a chance.

We were expecting Australia to be out for less than 45 and for Sri Lanka to win the match without any loss within 12 overs. Anyway, this is a big achievement and all our good wishes for the remaining two games. Congrats to our Ambassadors.

sri lanka would have restricted aussies to less than 70,if mahela allows malinga to complete his spell of 10 overs. malinga has bowled only 7 overs and taken 3 wickets for just 7 runs. aussies were 40/9 and scored 74 runs to end the innings.mahela always do blunders like this.dear mahela, its high time for retirement.

Mahela is a gentleman type of a character like our Opposition Leader and always sympathises and supports the Opposing side whenever they are in trouble. No, we have to be aggressive. Anyway, this win is also really good but we could have done better.

Congrats by keeping the winning spirit in Aussies soil but SL team should learn patience as we had witnessed that the team was trying to chase the target like playing T20 match and senior should be more careful with their decisions when executing plans.. Hat off to Kulasekara.

If it was a coprehensive victory we would have been in the moon but unfortunately it's a worrying factor the way we chased...I am pretty sure Aussies will come at us very hard in the next match as they nearly pulled off a miracle today...
