Australia whitewash SL in test series

Australia beats Sri Lanka by five wickets to claim series 3-0

Australia were 136 for five and just five runs from victory at tea on the fourth day of the final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Mike Hussey, playing in his 79th and final Test, was unbeaten on 23 with Mitchell Johnson yet to score.

Sri Lanka made a great start in defending a skinny 140-run lead with the big wicket of David Warner in Australia's second innings on the fourth day of the final Sydney Test on Sunday.

The tourists were all out for 278 to leave Australia 141 runs to win the final Test and clean sweep the three-Test series.

But the Sri Lankans struck early, removing the dangerous Warner first ball when he was caught in the slips by Mahela Jayawardene off paceman Suranga Lakmal's first delivery for a duck.

At lunch, Australia were 13 for one with Phil Hughes on 12 and Ed Cowan not out one.

Dinesh Chandimal prolonged the Sri Lankan resistance in their second innings with a defiant unbeaten knock of 62 off 106 balls with 11 fours.

Chandimal shared in a fighting 41-run last-wicket stand with Nuwan Pradeep off 74 balls to give the tourists some vital extra runs to defend on a turning pitch, prolonging Sri Lanka's innings after the loss of two quick wickets on the fourth day.

Rangana Herath was bowled by Jackson Bird for 10 and Suranga Lakmal swung wildly and was cleaned up by Mitchell Johnson for a duck.

Johnson finished with three for 34 and Bird captured three for 76.

Australia will be bidding for a 3-0 series whitewash after big wins in Hobart and Melbourne, while Sri Lanka are after their first-ever victory in 13 Tests in Australia.(AFP)

Good to see Chandimal with good batting and wicket keeping...but making annoying noise behind the stump. He must be follow Sanga

I didn't find Chandimal's noise annoying? he looks a good longterm leadership prospect.

Hope they will perform better in limited over matches and no need to worry, your houses will not be damaged as in India.

These kind of blind supports have made these guys like this. We should criticize these bunch when they deserve. we have talents outside of urban areas too

Positive thing is we found high quality young players like Dimuth, Lahiru and Dinesh as the next generation of classy players. This should include Upul and Sirimanna too. Now we can kick all the grumpy old players out from the side. We just need only another quality bowler.

Fast Pitches - Fast Pitches and Fast Pitches. That's the only way we can fix this problem and encourage better bowling talent in SL. Else don't tour Australia. You are wasting your time with bits and pieces fast bowlers. Just see Jackson Bird. At 20 years he is better than all our fast bowlers combined.

Oldies like Samare , Prasanna and Dilshan should retire from tests..We have 3 of the top 5 young batsmen in world cricket - Chandi , Dimuth and Thirimanne..Mathews should lead SL..Sanga and Mahela can guide them
