Police who were conducting investigations to trace the whereabouts of a 23 year old young woman who had gone missing recovered her skeletal remains , fragments of her clothes and her bag containing personal documents from a jungle in Naigalara in the Kudaoya Police area.
The suspects had used the victims cellular phone and requested her father and her partner to credit cash in a bank account, on several occasions. However, when they had made a request for Rs. 15,000, the victims partner had suspected foul play and informed the police
The victim Hettiarachchilage Thakshila Sanduni Deepamali (23) was a resident of Ethiliwewa in Kudaoya and was employed as a saleswoman in a shop.
On suspicion of foul play, the police had conducted further investigation to find that the victim had been clubbed to death by her 28 year old elder sister and her 18 year old lover.
Police said the suspects had clubbed the young woman to death over a family dispute and dumped the body in the Naigalara forest. The victims father had complained to police that she had gone missing since May 04, after she left for employment. The suspects had used the victims cellular phone and requested her father and her partner to credit cash in a bank account, on several occasions. However, when they had made a request for Rs. 15,000, the victims partner had suspected foul play and informed the police. The two suspects who called over at the bank to withdraw the cash were arrested and questioned by the police to find their involvement in the killing.
The suspects who were produced before the Wellawaya Magistrate were remanded. OIC Kudaoya police CI S.A.C.Prasad is conducting further investigations on the instructions of ASP A.H.S. Karunaratne and SSP Samantha Wijesekara
