E-mail Print
An alleged brothel operating in the guise of a massage parlour in Wellawatte was raided last evening by the Panadura, Walana anti vice squad, Police said.

A resident from Dehiwala believed to be the manager of the brothel and a 28 year-old woman from Bentota alleged to be a sex worker were arrested during the raid, while two more female suspects were also arrested for aiding and abetting.

Police Spokesman Ajith Rohana said the suspect who had been managing the operations had claimed to be a ministry secretary.

The four suspects had been produced before the Hultsdorp Magistrate today while the Wellawatte Police are conducting further investigations.

Leave the brothels alone, they provide a valuable service. Ever since the police started cracking down on brothels the rapes statistics has increased.

The police seem very efficient in catching prostitutes. But they are highly inefficient when having to catch alleged lawbreakers such as Malaka Silva. The cops should concentrate on real crime instead of trying to be moral police, like in Saudi Arabia.

Its a commendable thing that police has done here, raiding a place with higher influence. These houses of ill-fame are equally dangerous as drug dens, because both of these are equally addictive, and results in breakdown of the family unit, and in long term, the whole society.

The panadura police has to come to Wellawate to raid the brothel? What was the Wellawatte police doing? This what you call commendable? Why the Wellwatte police didn't raid the brother is left to your imagination!

Once in a way the Police is conducting some raids here and there just to show the public that they are still active but everybody knows they are really scared of politicians, their families and hangers-on.

What the hell is wrong with this country? This is one of the oldest professions in the history of mankind. While the cops are going after prostitutes, Rapists are walking around with impunity.

It is only the small time brothels which are raided and small time prostitutes penalised. What about the 5 star brothels and those prostitutes who cater to the high and the mighty? They get away scot-free.

Petition to legalise Prostitution.....??? I don't say its the best step, but to some extent this might curb crimes and also give some legitimacy , also less exploitation of these innocent females trying to make a living... Govt should step in !! Its not like this business is going to STOP over night...
