Businessman arrested with 1.5 kilos of gold

A 43-year-old businessman attempting to smuggle 1.5 kilos of gold biscuits valued at Rs.10 million to Mumbai was arrested by Customs officials at the Bandaranaike International airport last night.

He was fined Rs.100,000 and the gold biscuits were confiscated.

Investigations had revealed that he was an agent acting on behalf of a gold smuggler. (Tex and pix by Deepa Adikari)

It would have been better to show the face of the smuggler rather than showing the faces of those who arrested him. This is the second time in a week I'm seeing the same table with a piece of masking tape pasted on it :))

So, the smuggling of confiscated LTTE gold in small quantities, has already started, obviously with the blessings of those on top, including KP.

As long as the gold in question was not stolen property , I don't see why there should be restrictions taking it abroad.
