Sanchi event is apolitical, Chouhan writes to Vaiko

E-mail Print
Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has appealed to MDMK leader Vaiko to call off the protest against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's scheduled visit to Sanchi for laying the foundation stone of International Buddhist University.

In a letter to Vaiko, Chouhan said that function at Sanchi was completely apolitical.

It should be seen as an endeavour to promote peace and harmony among the Asian countries, the letter said.

The BJP leader assured Vaiko that he stood by the Tamils on the issue of human rights.

Madhya Pradesh government's objective in setting up a university at Sanchi was to "bring together various civilisations of the Asian countries", he said.
Dignitaries from Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Japan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Mangolia and Nepal have been invited to the program, the Chief Minister pointed out.

Vaiko, an ardent advocate for the rights of Tamil population in Sri Lanka, had recently written a letter to Chouhan requesting him to withdraw the invitation to Rajapaksa, as people in Tamil Nadu blamed the Lankan President for atrocities against Tamils in that country. (PTI )

Call beneficial for Tamils avoiding free-hits for all concerned.

Dear Shivraj Singh Chouhan, If you need a dignitary from Srilanka, there are so many other people with good name. The point is why have u invited MR? Is it to provoke Tamil Nadu?

The bad name was given by those ticked off by him ending the war and dashing their Eelam dream. I am no lover of MR but nothing has been proved against him yet.

Dont listen to 3rd party gossip about MR's bad reputation. Most of you form an opinion after listening only to one side of the story. If you comment on the truth DM will publish regardless of who its about.

What is wrong with MR? He is a true leader and a devoted Buddhist. Not a coward like VP, who killed innocent civilians with suicide bombers. However, we have to move on and forget the past. Vaiko is seeking cheap political mileage protesting against our President.

Sri Lankans are grateful to HE Rajapakse for wiping out the LTTE. Indians admire HE Rajapakse. The TN joker lost, so he is upset. Get a life, Vaiko!
