SL braces for nuclear disaster

Sri Lanka installed five nuclear disaster detectors to alert the people on nuclear accidents, the Power and Energy Ministry said today.
It said three more detectors will be also installed soon.

The detectors will provide early warnings during both nuclear emergencies and other environmental disasters that may occur in the region
The ministry said the project was carried out at an estimated cost of some Rs.12 million was a part of an agreement reached among the Atomic Energy Authority, the Disaster management centre and the Sri Lanka Navy.

Authority Chairman Ranith Wijewardena said there were plans to install a detector in Kandy later.

What about installing early warning system to alert public on power breakdowns. Are these early warning systems powered by electricity?

do we have to dug pits in our homes when your detectors warned ??. dont waste public money for useless things. its better if you can provide shelters to homeless or reduce electricity bills or at least credit that money into govrnment ministers accounts and import some good patrol and diesel without rely on commissions

Exactly! so when the alarm goes off what is the 23 million of us going to do ? Run ? Looks like this might have helped some guy in power make a hefty commission and in the long run help the 'leaders' and the ultra wealthy to take immediate flight if these alarms go off. This has no benefit to the poor man, woman or child apart from warning them that they are about to be radiation poisoned to death. Money would've been best spent on the poor to have a roof over their head atleast until the alarm goes off.

so are these detectors also from China ? Who are the real beneficiaries ? The General Public or the CONTRACTOR ? Do we actually need them at this stage ?

Let me be frank with all of you... if there is God forbid ,a Nuclear Disaster in South India... We are all dead... its that simple...! No need to waste time with these detectors... instead push to ban the South Indian Nuclear plant immediately,. and give SL people 24hr electricity "Basic need"

what we have to do after the waning ?
find for a shelter ?or do we have to buy a Anti nuclear Shield ?
there ara more importent things can do for Sri Lanka using Rs.12 million .
