SEC Chairman Thilak Karunarathne tendered his resignation a short while ago, SEC officials said

Karunarathne ended a week of speculation about his resignation, tendering his resignation to the Ministry of Finance, sources said.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka's Finance Ministry said today it has still not decided on a replacement for the Securities and Exchange Commission chief as his resignation has not been accepted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Reuters reported. (I.S)

When people start getting old they get the urge that they should make good with their creator. think this is also one instance of that. that will also explain to you why some people do a few good things just before they retire after all the bad stuff they have done.

He is a buddhist and there is no creator in buddhism. Christians of course may have grouses against him when considering his activities in SU and JHU.

Ha Ha dude. In any religion doing the wrong thing or staying with the people who does wrong things is equally bad.
I don't think he didn't know anything about it. he just got smarter and wanted out of it before it became ugly.
and doing a few good things while doing a lot of bad things still doesn't make you a 'Upasaka'
and yes you can use what ever religious logic you want for that :)

If he had wanted to take advantage of this position he could have, by placating those powerful people behind all the misdemeanours. He resigned from the SU & JHU when he felt they were going astray and now he has resigned when his conscience did not permit hanging on, just like the previous office holder. Who does not make mistakes?

Dr. Tilak should have battled on until he was fired. Then the public would have had the chance of witnessing whether these manipulators are really powerful enough to force the hand of even the president. Had he done so, it would have been an inestimable service to our nation.

Rather than a question of honesty or dishonesty of an incumbent, this resignation is an indication of the general breakdown of law and order in the country. The Regulator is obviously captured by the Mafia who are well protected and safeguarded by the powers that be just like they protect the rapists and murderers among them. This resignation will now pave the way for the appointment of a member of the Mafia itself to fill the vacancy. And then they will all live happily ever after!
