China urges SL to release fishermen

E-mail Print
China has called on Sri Lanka to release 37 Chinese fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan navy, China's Xinhua state news agency reported on Monday, in a case that could test increasingly close ties between Beijing and Colombo.

Sri Lanka's navy arrested the fishermen on Sunday night. They were aboard two trawlers off the Sri Lankan east coast town of Batticaloa, Xinhua said.

"The Chinese embassy ... has urged Sri Lankan authorities to handle the issue in accordance with the law, sort out the truth and release the Chinese fishermen as soon as possible," Xinhua said. (Source: Reuters)

True. Law and order should be applied accordingly. However they will be free like the way Indian Fishermen are freed.

The law should be same for any one volating maritime law.Whay have they come in to our waters?? Just to take the catch of our own fisherman and sweep our sea beds.this is rediculous. They should be punished as per the law.

Do the best to resolve the issue quickly and fairly. They are our best friends, unlike those paraya fellows who pretend to be friends, and then backstab Sri Lanka.

No arguments. Release them immediately. Otherwise, no more Chinese money for Sri Lanka. We are now under China's palm. Chinese behave like international thugs. See what they are going against Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia. They think other's seas are their.
