Drug addict assaults retired SSP

A man who is reported to have assaulted retired SSP M.D.C. Saparamadu at Pitipana in Homagama today had fled taking the SSP’s gold ring.
Police later arrested a suspect identified as Sanath Dharmasiri and also recovered the ring.

It was revealed that the man was a drug addict and had five arrest warrants against him. The arrest was made by police personnel led by IP Prasanna Ratnayake.

The retired SSP was admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital.

SSP Saparamadu retired from police service in 1993. He served as Director of the Police Fingerprints Bureau. (SD)
