‘Relatives of six politicos contest polls’

E-mail Print
The Eksath Jathika Bhikku Peramuna today revealed that close relatives of six leading politicians including the husband of a Minister, sons of a Minister and a Deputy Minister were to contest the forthcoming provincial council elections despite assurances given by the ruling UPFA that relatives of politicos would not be allowed to contest this time.

Addressing a press conference in Colombo its General Secretary Ven. Thiniyawala Palitha Thera requested the people of the North Central, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern Provinces not to vote for relatives of politicians contesting the upcoming elections.

The Ven. Thera said this was a disturbing trend as it would be a case of securing wealth and power for the families of these politicians rather than serving the people. “This would also lead to widespread corruption,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

He should not be requesting people how to vote but to be in the temple and preach religion.

As conscience keepers of society he is right in pointing out these anomalies, as long as there is no direct involvement or interference.

MR are you really following - the wording, I will do what I say and say what I do? Then as a policy you have told that you will not allow any Politicians Family Members will not be allowed to contest, but what has happened?

Ape Hamuduruwane,

You better involve in establishing Law and Order in the country . At least Independent commissions. Then people have free hand to exercise their choice. Now even they voted against them, what will happen after counting the votes ?
