Sweetened tobacco seized at BIA

A Sri Lankan passenger who attempted to smuggle a stock of 96kilos of sweetened tobacco into the country was arrested at the Katunayake International Airport by the Airport Customs.

He was arrested when he claimed the bags containing contraband that had been left in the airport. The suspect was a businessman in Colombo. Officials said they seized 2400 packets of tobacco valued more than Rs.1.5 million. (Deepa Adikari)
