Stand by the country's sovereignty: Army Chief

E-mail Print
Army Commander Jagath Jayasuirya in is new year message urged his troops to face challenges posed internationally “tirelessly” and to “stand by the country’s sovereignty at all times”. In a  new year message to the Army the commander spoke of “Countless unsuccessful efforts at international level adopted by different groups with vested interests to tarnish the image of the government as well as the armed forces”  and urged his men to stand by the country at all times.

The Commander also said “ Our next challenge in this peaceful and unitary country is development. You, as disciplined members in an exemplary Army, undertook the challenge of unifying the country, and you should be able to be the guiding light for that challenge of development too. This is a fitting tribute as well as a source of strength, reposed in us by HE, the President, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and the Secretary Defence and Urban Development”

“Countless unsuccessful efforts at international level, adopted by different groups with vested interests to tarnish the image of the government as well as the armed forces, are heard since of recent times. We must face such challenges tirelessly and stand by the country’s sovereignty at all times. Since our Army is recognized world-wide as a fearless and a highly disciplined organization, you must take pride in it and work all the time to sustain that standard and the Army’s image.”

“At this auspicious festive period, I recall the memories and invaluable services of our fallen War Heroes with dignity and honour. Let me also wish speedy recovery to all injured War Heroes, still recovering and extend my best wishes to all War Hero families. Likewise, my New Year greetings go to all members of the civil staff serving the Army and their family members”

Dont be pathetic, he has addressed the Army not the public. Addressing the army is what army commanders do.

Sovereignity. Sir, all you people are saying this word. Sir, I don't know what it means. Does it mean that whatever we do is always right? Or is it to defend our leaders when outsiders blame our leaders doing foul things?

We are an ungrateful country. SF who also should be given credit for winning the war is ignored and all traces of his career achievements erased. Whatever crime he may have committed certainly does not warrant the punishment he is being subjected to and which only serves to make him into a bigger hero.

The army commander has a right to adress his troops. Why do people want to twistbit for political gain??

Indeed he has every right to address his 'men'...but his speech is peppered with political statements, and for that 'crime' GF is now in prison!
