Three incidents of murder reported in the past 24 hours: Police

Three incidents of murder have been reported in Tissamaharama, Pothuhera and Hidogama police areas within the past 24-hours, the Police said.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the main objective of the Sinhala/Hindu New Year is promoting peace and unity. 

However, certain individuals have indulged in numerous criminal activities to destroy peace and unity which are contrary to social well-being.

A 48-year-old woman was clubbed to death by her paramour in the Sandagirigama police area in Tissamaharama. She was rushed to hospital and late succumb to her injuries. The paramour is at large and evading arrest, the spokesman said.

In another incident, a 45-year-old man was murdered by his paramour's legal husband at Hinabowagama in the Hidogama police area. It was reported that he was slain to death by a sword. The police investigations revealed that many sword-cut wounds were visible in the victim's body. 

In the third incident of murder which was reported on the same day, a 65-year old father was strangled to death by his 41-year-old son in Rathgalla, Boyagane in the Pothuhera police area. The son was taken into police custody and investigations are underway.

The police appealed to the general public to forget and forgive all the past vendetta and be mindful to promote peace, unity and harmony. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
