Massive fire breaks out

A forest fire is currently raging close to the Thalawila St. Anne’s Church where more than hundred thousand devotees have gathered to celebrate the annual St. Anne’s Church festival on August first. None of the devotees have been injured and attempts are under way to bring the fire under control

 

More than 20 acres of land have been affected by the fire which is reported to be spreading fast due to the dry conditions in the area. The Army, Navy, Police and the Fire brigade in the area have been called in to bring the fire under control. No casualties are reported yet.
