Duminda to undergo another surgery

E-mail Print
Duminda Silva who is a suspect in the murder of former MP Baratha Lakshman Premachandra is to undergo another operation at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore, the CID said.

Submitting a report to the magistrate the CID informed Colombo Magistrate court that they had recorded a statement from the father of Duminda Silva who has told them that Duminda Silva is to undergo further surgery during the course of this week and therefore is unable to be present in court.

Counsel for Baratha Lakshman Premachandra, Tirantha Walaliyadda objecting the report called on  the magistrate to issue a warrant to the interpol for the arrest of Silva. The counsel further submitted that the CID from the inception of the case wanted to safe guard the interests of Silva.

The magistrate however, noted that a warrant to the Interpol could only be issued if the CID tells court that they are unable to apprehend the suspect which is not the case here.

Hemantha Warnakulasuriya appearing on behalf of Duminda Silva told court that his client is a victim of the shootout and has not absconded court as the court is aware of his clients whereabouts.

The suspects in the case were further remanded till the 27th of April. (Farook Thajudeen)

GOSL with public money. We are also paying hefty bills on another good for nothing scoundrel Keheliya including hotel bills for his family staying in Singapore until he recuperates.

I agree. Both were injured during private affairs as such the public must not be burdened with their medical bills.

Who is paying for this?I hope not the tax payer as the ordinary man has to spend months on a waiting list to get into a hospital without drugs and then spend his time on the hospital floor where as the lucky few enjoy these perks. Lalith Wije.
