Bourse ends on negative note

The Colombo equity market commenced the weekly operations on a negative note with benchmark indices delivering negative returns.
 
ASI dropped by 21.50 points (-0.40%) to close at 5,398.70 and sensitive MPI declined by 2.63 points (-0.05%) to end at 4,888.95. Market turnover registered at Rs.694.6mn.
 
Piramal Glass Plc (Rs.282.2mn) was the top contributor to the daily turnover. The counter recorded a crossing of 45.3mn shares at a price of Rs.6.20. In addition John Keells Holdings Plc (Rs.83.4mn) and Swarnamahal Financial Plc (Rs.63.4mn) made significant contributions to the daily turnover.
 
Swarnamahal Financial Plc commenced its trading today after the subdivision of shares 1 into 20. The counter closed at Rs.9.00, up Rs.1.06 (+13.35%).
 
Foreign participation stood at 11.9% of the total market activity. At the end of the day foreign investors were the net buyers with a net foreign inflow of Rs.34.4mn
