The Sri Lankan authorities are still trying to establish contact with Haiti to inquire into the fate of Sri Lankan peacekeepers in the country following the massive earthquake last night which has caused massive devastation and killed many.

Military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakara, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that they are aware of the devastating earthquake in Haiti but have not yet been able to establish contact with the peacekeepers on the ground.

CNN quoted UN officials as saying a short while ago that the UN peacekeeping building in Haiti had collapsed and there were reports of casualties among UN staff following the 7.0 quake. (ER)
