LET links Lanka

The key accused in the Pune German Bakery blast in India has made a startling revelation to his interrogators — that the tourist destination of Colombo is a training hub of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET), the Asian Age reported.

Mirza Himayat Baig, 29, the conspirator and co-planter of the bomb placed at Pune’s German Bakery, has confirmed he received his terror training in Colombo. “Baig had received training in terror activities in Colombo. We will try to get more information on the same from him,” said India’s Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) chief Rakesh Maria has said.

The Asian Age quoted a source as saying that another reason for the LeT choosing Colombo could be because of its image as a tourist destination among Indians.

“There are a lot of Indian tourists in Colombo and such visits are not under the scanner. Moreover, they were of the opinion that the radar would be on LTTE operatives who might still be lying low, so Islamic terrorists had a good chance of going unnoticed,” he said.

Baig received Daura-e-aam and Daura-e-khaas training in Colombo, the same training imparted to Ajmal Aamir Kasab in Pakistan. The police is now getting details from Baig of where in Colombo the training camp was held. “We will pass on the information through the right channels as it will help the Sri Lankan police identify these patches and keep a watch,” said another source.

Is this a public annoucement?
Indians should have done this secretly and catch the culprits in SL with the help of SL security.

This is just an excuse for the Indian authorities to still further violate Sri Lanka's sovereignty. I think this is to pressure the government to allow a permanent Indian security presence in the island to prompt any further Chinese influence in the nation by accusing Colombo of training anti-Indian militants. It is high time Sri Lanka stuck up for itself and kindly show India where it can stick these absurd accusations.

This is totally un-acceptable. How come a Terror Training could be carried out in Colombo? If this is true, Colombo city would have been utilised by LTTE prior to any Terrorist organisation. But it was not.
Colombo city was a High Security Zone during LTTE era and still GOSL has not completely removed these security arrangements.
This is an attempt to tarnish the image of SL as against the booming Tourist industry.

If all this is true, then what was all the security check points and searches about? On the other hand could it be an Indian rope trick to keep Lanka at bay?
