The government says senior officials will continue with their overseas visits as scheduled despite the threat posed by some LTTE lobbyists in the west. Government Defence Spokesperson Keheliya Rambukwella told Daily Mirror online that despite the LTTE being defeated militarily by the army, the LTTE diaspora continued to function overseas, posing a threat to the government ministers.

However Rambukwella said that despite such threats, the government would continue their official visits overseas in order to strengthen its international ties.

“We had a threat even when the LTTE was active in the country. However they were wiped out by the army. We will not back out from traveling overseas just because of the LTTE lobbyists,” Rambukwella said.

According to media reports the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN, Dr. Palitha Kohona has blamed the LTTE lobbyists for postponing his visit to Canada where he was scheduled to deliver a lecture at the Toronto University. His visit was put on hold following a security assessment.

Media reports said that Margaret McKone, Executive Director at the University said the planned lecture had to be postponed pending a standard ‘security assessment’. (Daily Mirror online)

What exactly is the threat - the fact that they have requested an independent inquiry on war crimes? So, all the Diaspora is now LTTE? Not even a month ago the Govt claimed 99% of the Tamils abroad are supportive of MR.
How about the Sinhala Diaspora protesting to release SF, to honour HR and safeguard independence of media? Do they pose a threat too? - Are they LTTE as well?

Kohona's lecture is not needed by the University in Canada. He is not important there. Now the world looks at us under a 'war-crimes microscope.'

Dear Keheliya, you cannot hide behind the LTTE bogey, any longer, as they are now history. The reason why Tamils are able to win-over world politicians, is because of what is happening to them, in Tamil areas.

You guys can go to China, Russia, Pakistan, Iran and Libya, to 'strengthen international ties.' There are no LTTE supporters, in those countries. You can also do all your shopping there.

Canada, especially the Toronto area, is plagued by LTTE operatives. It's a well known fact. Canada will learn, in due time.

It is only if the government keeps the LTTE fever alive, they can survive.

So, in essence, you imply that all diaspora Tamils are either LTTE or LTTE proxies?

Avoid you people going abroad, we can at least save some money and their visits never bring anything good to the country either in this govt.

Remember Canda has prosecuted war criminals from other countries. Therefore, it can be a wise decision made by the GOSL or the permanent representative.
