There are only 2 newspapers that openly criticise the GOSL .

Now they have arrested the editor of one.

They have also kicked out a foreign reporter who asked embarrassing questions,

We are well on the road to being a banana republic.

These are not journalists, but mudslingers. Journalists have to be impartial - these people just spread lies to create unrest in the country!

don't start talking about media freedom! 'Lanka' was a paper which was poisoning the minds of people. Just coz u have media freedom, it does not mean that you can go ahead and write any piece of rubbish you want. Media has a huge responsibility in giving the correct info to the people and at the same time helping to create a positive and harmonic atmosphere.

If the majority did not care about what the "Lanka' Editor had written, and voted for MR, then why arrest the Editor?

I agree that 'media freedom' does not mean that any news can be published, without knowing the real facts. Some news may be false and could bring a bad repute, to the country. However, arresting Mr.Srimalwatta, just after winning the Election, sends a very bad message to the public. I think there are better things to do, after a victory.

Can Newspapers under the guise of media freedom defame people. If it is criminal defamation it must be investigated no one is above the law. Both sides made allegations of corruption etc let us get to bottom of it all.If they are really corrupt they must be punished. If lies are propagated this too must be stopped

Yes, "coco butter": because the villagers who voted are not educated enough to post comments in English newspapers. That is the bane of this country. Very soon our staple food should be declared as "Poonac" and "Bajiri"
