Some UNPers including members of the Pradeshiya sabhas were seen behaving in an aggressive manner near the party head quarters, Sirikotha, yesterday as they were not allowed to get into the premises.
Party members gathered at Sirikotha as they were informed that the New Democratic Front Candidate would meet them to thank them for their work during the election campaign.
Some party members said they were asked to come to Sirikotha as Mr. Premaadasa would meet them there. However they complained that they were not allowed in. Security people at the entrance have informed the people gathered at Sirikotha that they have been asked to close the gates.
Member of Parliament Harsha de Silva who came to the Sirikotha tendered an apology to the people gathered at the premises. “We decided not to get in to a confrontation and had shifted the venue of the meeting to Vauxhall Steeet where Mr. Premadasa’s campaign office is located. However we are sad the gates of Sirikotha were closed,” he said.
UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam when contacted by the Daily Mirror said no one issued orders to close the gates. “We had discussions with Mr. Premadasa on the matter and agreed that his meeting with the party supporters will be held at Vauxhall Street,” he said.
