The Army said that they took into custody on Saturday a relative of the National Thowheed Jamaat leader Zahran Hashim’s wife and another person with a stock of CDs,
a laptop computer, router, Rs. 28,000 and some letters exchanged with Zahran. Those who had been taken into custody are a cashier of a bakery outlet in Mawanella and another person. The Army said that these two persons were the residents of Kekunagolla area in Kurunegala.
When the military engaged in a search operation in Mawanella and suburbs on Saturday, this cashier who is said to be a relative of Zahran’s wife had been taken into custody with the CDs, lap top computer etc. According to the statement recorded from this suspect, another suspect had been arrested from a house in Kekunagolla in Kurunegala and the suspects and the equipment taken into custody had been handed over to the Kegalle division Special Crimes Investigations Unit.
During further search operations, 36 T 56 ammunition in Ma Oya and 11 swords from Hingulaoya in Hingula and some other explosives and weapons had been found. No suspect had been arrested so far regarding the weapons discovered .
