  • He could have led the UNP and become President
  • We are not there to attack Sajith’s party, but to fight with the government

By Shane Senevirathne  and j.a.l. Jayasinghe

Former State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene after paying homage at the historical Dalada Maligawa followed by a courtesy call on the Mahanayake Theras of the Malwaththa and Asgiriya Chapters and obtaining their blessings yesterday spoke to the media and commented as follows.

Sajith Premadasa should not have rushed in. He should have waited patiently until the 2025 Presidential elections when he could have led the UNP and become the President. The UNP is not the private property or a family’s asset of anyone. It is a party of the people. But the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is a party of the Bandaranaikes and Pohottuwa is a party of the Rajapaksa family.

He also said that they were not there to attack Sajith’s party, but to fight with the government. Presently the common masses are facing many severe hardships. Today people are fed up with politics. Those who charged that we were destroying the environment are now engaged in sand mining and removal of soil. They are also planning to clear a large amount of hectares of forest land, he said.
