While the curfew remains in force round the clock countrywide today and tomorrow (25, 26) until 5.00 am on Monday (27), DIG Ajith Rohana said the violators of curfew regulations would be dealt with strictly and charged under the Quarantine Disease Prevention Ordinance (QDPO).

DIG Rohana said 666 individuals had been arrested and 183 vehicles detained yesterday, for violating the curfew. Altogether over 35,000 men and women remained in custody for the offence since March 20.
Traveling to and from the districts of Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam, identified as high risk districts, is completely prohibited he said.

Meanwhile the Presidential Media Division (PMD) said conditions and guidelines announced on the continuation of essential services and agricultural activities will remain unchanged,.
“We request all shops, supermarkets, merchants and security personnel at all sales centres to disperse crowds when catering to customers. We also request them to try and limit the number of persons entering the shop at a time,” the DIG stressed.

He said only two passengers will be allowed to travel per three-wheeler.
“What we urge the public is to understand that the period where curfew is temporarily lifted will not be a total reversal. This time should be used only to sort out one’s most important needs,” he added.
“We have arrested many who organised parties in various parts of the country. It should be noted that, this curfew is not an ordinary curfew where an individual would only be required to avoid stepping into the street. This curfew was imposed to keep people in social isolation,” he added.

All vehicles venturing out during curfew will be confiscated he stated.
We have ordered all police officers to check not only main roads but also by-roads, lanes and footpaths and arrest anyone breaking the curfew, DIG Rohana stressed.
