Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya said yesterday the presidential election would be conducted on November 16, 2019.
The commission issued the gazette notification, Gazette Extraordinary (2141/25) last night, declaring the presidential election.
He told Daily Mirror the nominations for the election would be called for on Monday, October 7 from 9.00am to 11.00am.
Mr. Deshapriya said cash deposits could be made in view of the election till noon on October 6. Objections to candidate nominations will be accepted till 11.30am on October 7.
The commission took this decision in keeping with the election law.
