NPP says: We expect the strength to stand against anti-people moves

While expecting a strong representation in parliament, National Peoples’ Power (NPP) said yesterday that it would be the main force to stand with the people against harmful and destructive moves which are set to unfold after the August 5 general election.  
 
NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayaka told media after casting his vote in Colombo, that a certain faction was attempting to create a single-family democracy in the country and that people should defeat such moves with their franchise.   

“Things that are detrimental and harmful to people are set to take place after the general election. We expect a strong representation in parliament to defeat such moves,” he said.   
He said even though the election was considerably free and fair, the use of state property, state media and state power were reported as usual in this election as well.   
Mr. Dissanayake said the political atmosphere in the country would reach its peak after the election as the government would face the current economic crisis by burdening the people and depriving them of their rights.   

“This government will face the economic debacle by burdening the people and depriving them of their rights. They will suppress peoples’ struggles against violation of their rights. NPP will become the main force to stand against the political developments after August 5,” he said.
