The preliminary report compiled by the panel of experts appointed to review the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement was handed over to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat.
The four-member committee headed by Professor Lalithasiri Gunaruwan of Colombo University was appointed following a Cabinet decision taken on December 18 last year. The committee came into effect from January 1, 2020.
The other committee members are former Secretary to the Transport Ministry Dr. D.S. Jayaweera, President’s Counsel Nihal Jayawardena and Chartered Architect Nalaka Jayaweera.
Meanwhile, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said an independent professional analysis was expected from the committee and accordingly a wide range of analysis was being conducted across a number of facets. It said the committee was continuing to gather information over the agreement by reviewing documents and participating in discussions and conferences with various stakeholders, groups
and individuals.
