The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) yesterday issued a landslide early warning for three districts including Kandy, Kegalle and Matale, the Meteorology Department said.
They said the landslide warning was issued for the susceptible areas previously identified
by NBRO.
Accordingly, the Yellow coloured warning level one, landslide warning was issued for the following areas of the mentioned three districts.
Kandy District - Udunuwara, Deltota, Gangawata Korale, Yatinuwara, Thumpane, Ududumbara, Doluwa, Medadumbara and Pathadumbara Divisional Secretariat Division(s) (DSD) and surrounding areas.
Kegalle District - Mawanella and Aranayaka DSDs and surrounding areas.
Matale District - Ambanganga Korale and Rattota DSDs and surrounding areas.
The NBRO requested the people living in landslide risk areas to pay attention to the following pre-landslide signs such as the development of cracks on the ground, deepened cracks and ground subsidence - Slanting of trees, electrical posts, fences and telephone posts - Cracks in the floors and walls of buildings which are built on slopes and the sudden appearance of springs, emerging muddy water, blockage or disappearances of existing springs.
Communities are advised to follow the instructions given by the NBRO and Disaster Management Centre.
