GMOA Chairman Dr. Anurudda Padeniya, who was not at his residence to be placed under quarantine after he was identified as a first contact of a COVID-19 infected person moved for self-quarantine, Kelaniya Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chandima Wickramage said.
Speaking to Daily Mirror, she said Dr Padeniya had visited Deraniyagala on a personal errand when Public Health Inspectors had gone to his residence in Kelaniya.
Dr. Padeniya would be subject to a PCR test today and is under self-quarantine at his residence in Kelaniya. The area PHI earlier told Daily Mirror that he could not contact Dr. Padeniya and had visited his residence twice but could not find him. Subsequently, they had brought this to the notice of the Kelaniya MOH. Dr. Padeniya had organised a party at his residence in Dippitigoda, Kelaniya on January 8, where around 20 persons from three families were reported to have attended the party.
One of the attendees, a doctor attached to a hospital in Avissawella was subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. The infected doctor is a resident of Minuwangoda.
Accordingly, the Minuwangoda Regional Medical Officer of Health instructed the PHIs to direct all those who attended the party to be quarantined.
