The Colombo Crime Division (CCD) has launched an investigation into MP Ranjan Ramanayake’s telephone recordings, police said.
Several telephone conversations between MP Ramanayake and several key officials of the police including former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), judiciary and prominent politicians are being circulated in social media.
The police seized several CDs from the MP’s residence in Madiwela on Saturday during a search carried out by the CCD following a search warrant issued by the court.
After the telephone recordings published in the media, several civil organizations had also complained to the police, the Judicial Service Commission and the National Police Commission, urging to launch probe against Ranjan Ramanayake and those who were involved in the conversation.
