The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday summoned former Deputy Minister Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman to the CID to record a statement, Police Spokesman Jaliya Senaratna said.
Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne yesterday ordered the CID to immediately investigate statement made by Karuna Amman with regard to the crimes committed by him when in the LTTE.
“When I was a member of the LTTE, I killed some 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan army personnel in one night at Elephant Pass. I have killed more in Killinochchi. That is certainly higher than the number of lives the coronavirus has claimed in Sri Lanka,” Karuna said addressing a gathering in Navadinveli, Ampara recently.
SSP Senaratna said the CID will record a statement from Karuna Amman in this regard.
