A total of 103 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized as at yesterday, according to the Epidemiology Unit. There was no new case reported by 10 a.m. yesterday. Three Sri Lankans have died so far of the disease including the two persons who succumbed to the disease in Switzerland and the United Kingdom.
Eleven patients had recovered fully and been discharged from the hospital. Meanwhile, one of them was discharged yesterday. Besides, there are 17 suspected cases.
Foreign Relations Ministry spokesperson Ruwanthi Delpitiya told Daily Mirror yesterday that the Ministry had received information of the death of two Sri Lankans in London but only one death had been confirmed in official terms. “We are checking the veracity of the other death. We will issue a press release soon after the confirmation of a second death in London,” Miss Delpitiya said. In the global scene, the spiralling trend of COVID-19 continued in 199 countries across the world at an alarming rate with 30,935 deaths by noon yesterday from among 665,985 confirmed cases of viral infections.
In the US, 2,229 patients died from COVID-19 with a total of 30,935 victims by yesterday, in UK, 1,019 deaths reported from 17,089 patients, in Italy 10,023 deaths from 92,472, in China, 3,300 deaths from 81,439, in Germany, 455 deaths from 58,247, in Iran 2,517 deaths from 35,408 and in our neighbouring India, 25 deaths from 987 patients by noon yesterday.
