 Review

S
ean Paul entertained a multitude of screaming
Sri Lankan fans on November 13 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium where he performed some of his biggest hits such as ‘Gimme the light’, ‘Get busy’, ‘Temperature’ and many more. While a good number of people in the audience were entertained by his performance there were a few who felt otherwise. Some of those who attended the show gave us their views on Sean Paul’s performance.

"
I didn’t think much of Sean Paul’s performance. It was not that good in my opinion. In fact, it was far less from what I expected it to be. But I got to hand it to him for really making an effort to get the crowd on its feet. Although I didn’t enjoy it, there were tons of people who were entertained
by his performance. - Nirosha Peiris

Shockingly Sean Paul revealed that he had, in the back of his mind wanted to visit Sri Lanka ever since he met a Sri Lankan girl in Canada in 1999 which he also said was the reason behind referring to Sri Lanka in one of his songs. During his touch down press conference Sean Paul empathized with the flood victims in Sri Lanka and asked to be taught how to say 'thank you very much' when questioned whether he knew any Sinhala. Q: What are your current projects and future projects?
My new album is coming out next year. In that album, I want to feature many Jamaican singers. All because I want to give the spotlight to young local talent, since there is so many there.
I met Kelly Rowland and I'm planning to do a song with her. She is amazing. Also Jaysean, he is a great guy who has done some great songs.
Q: Current stars you think are great and the all time great ones?
Carpenters, Bob Marley are my all time greats; I love and look up to them. They were our role models to come to where we are today.
I listen to everything, all kinds of music, so I like Greenday and Blink 182.
Q:What was the reason behind the small break early last year?
Just because I wasn’t making noise doesn’t mean I was taking a break. I was doing stuff, the album and I was trying my hand at production. That’s just an assumption. The media took hold of it and gave a wrong idea.
Q:How did you prepare for the concert?
(Laughs) I couldn’t prepare much for the concert because I overslept, but it came out good I guess. The crowd was amazing and energized. I was motivated by the audience; though I wish there weren’t any chairs. No chairs in my concert.
Q:Where do you get your inspiration?
From my travels, like when we go on tour. I get inspiration for my songs from the experiences in different countries.
I even mentioned Sri Lanka in one of my songs.
