Sri Lanka-Italy Business Council holds AGM

The 16thAnnual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Italy Business Council concluded on July 27th at the Hilton Colombo Residencies Colombo. The Council, which focuses on the objectives of ‘promoting investment, trade and joint venture between Sri Lanka and Italy’, is one bilateral business councils that function under the aegis of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.

Giandomenico Milano, Charge’ D ‘Affairs A.I, Embassy of Italy and Chief Guest in his speech stated that Business Relationships between Sri Lanka and Italy has benefited greatly through the Sri Lanka – Italy Business Council who has carried out a much more important role over the last years. Playing the pivotal function in the promotion of bilateral trade, investments, tourism and Industrial Corporation and acting as a breach reaching the business communities. The envoy also mentioned that he looks forward for future support of the council for various activities and also stated that the High commission looks forward in supporting the council in all its activities.

Tania Polonnowita Wettimuny, Managing Director, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (Pvt) Ltd was re-elected as the President of the Council for the year 2015/2016. She said the incoming Committee would focus attention in achieving its objectives such as encouraging joint ventures between Sri Lanka and Italy, conduct joint meetings with Italian business organizations in Sri Lanka and Italy and that the council will work closely with the Embassy of Italy in Sri Lanka and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Rome.

Rajah Abeyasinghe JP, Chief Executive Office, Hydromec International (Pvt) Ltd, and Sonali Liyanamana Chief Executive Officer, Interglobe - Worldlink Air Services (Pvt) Ltdwere appointed as Vice Presidents respectively.Daya RathnayakeCEO/Managing Director, AusAfrasia Designer Tiles (Pvt) Ltd will continue to serve as the immediate past president.

Ltd.
