Former Sri Lanka captain Arjuna Ranatunga and his brother, Nishantha, suffered defeats in the Sri Lanka Cricket elections held this morning. Shammi Silva backed by parliamentarian Thilanga Sumathipala beat businessman Jayantha Dharmadasa for the post of President while Nishantha Ranatunga was defeated by Mohan de Silva for the post of secretary. The elections were dominated by Sumathipala's group as all their candidates were also elected to their respective posts.
Shammi who has served as SLC Treasurer under the previous committee headed by Sumathipala secured 83 votes against Dharmadasa’s 56. Meanwhile, Arjuna, who led Sri Lanka to a World Cup win in 1996, was one of four contestants for the two vice-president posts. The 82 votes he received, however, were insufficient to guarantee a victory, and Ravin Wickremaratne (82) and K Mathivanan (80votes) were elected instead.
The secretary's post went to Mohan de Silva, a former SLC president who secured 96 votes beating Nishantha who scored only 43 votes.
Lasantha Liyanage received the highest votes at the election, garnering 100 votes to defeat Easman Narangoda (37 votes) for the post of treasurer.
Cryshantha Kapuwatte received 94 votes and was elected assistant secretary. He beat Hirantha Perera who garnered 44 votes.
Lalith Rambukwella received 192votes and was elected assistant treasurer, over Sedara Sanarath who secured 42 votes.

It's up to ICC to handle our corrupted SLC by investigating the match fixing and corruption charges. The present appointed board will be manipulated by Thilanga and expecting a corruption free administration will be a dream.
