With six days to the crucial court ruling on 80% pictorial warning on cigarette packets, Colombo walls were splattered with posters today questioning as to who is stopping the implementation of 80% pictorial warning which has been strongly endorsed by the President, the Cabinet of Ministers including Minister of Health, all Parliament members, religious dignitaries and the general public. GOD THE ALMIGHTY!

    Adam Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:54 AM

    Adam Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:52 AM

Monday's bench please save this country from Tobacco mafia..
don't let them fool you... please deliver a strong verdict against the tobacco company...

    wasala Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:19 AM

agree ranjith, there are always paid employees of tobacco inside health and other institutions...media should expose them...
Yes I too agree that anti-tobacco posters have helped the youth a lot...I am glad my sons are not into smoking and I am sure they too have read the posters

    Dinesh Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:15 AM

With the tobacco company and liquor companies, President and the entire government do not get their salaries, luxury vehicles, money to send by the children etc.....

    gog Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:12 AM

Under the sky money is needed to maintain power whatever happens to the country. Constitutional executive tags alone not enough.

Ranjith Silva Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:00 AM

There is a set of Westerns Educated / Graduated Lankans taking the contract for carrying out what the West need and to destroy what indigenous values. Look at Agriculture Medicine and all have rich and very productive local methods but the media use contractors to change attitudes of the mass. There are officials in the Ministries and even some MPs and Minsters in the same boat. They just want money and only money.

    biyanka Tuesday, 06 May 2014 08:00 AM

please don't condemn posters....more than anything else posters did a lot to create awareness among public that smoking is cancerous and ugly..we grew up reading those posters on walls and figuring the dangers of tobacco at a very young age...
Thanks a bunch for those who put up posters

kalu banda Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:51 AM

Who is above the President ? MONEY of course!

    Lankatruth Tuesday, 06 May 2014 06:57 AM

I am sure, the media institutions which know 'everything' should know this as well. Why don't they openly say who the culprits are? Why do you have to waste money on posters to give this message. Stop this drama. Come up with the real truth !!

    shalini Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:41 AM

All my friends have only one condition for their boy friends ...
.no smoking please........it makes us feel nauseatic... and thankfully nowadays boys unlike our father's generation are more confident...they don't smoke...they don't need the puff to show that they are men....so thankfully we don't suffer as our mothers did

    Shalini

    shehan Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:36 AM

High time we throw tobacco companies out of the country for good....that will cut more than half the patients dying or receiving treatment at Cancer Hospital....

    enoka Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:30 AM

its tobacco...the poster campaigns and other strategies at least save our youth from this menace that had once gobbled up our people...even a movie was not made without gamini fonseka lighting a cigarette now one hardly see youngsters smoking

One should thank organizations like ADIC for their smart campaigns... I am sure the posters became a talking point...

    Eranga Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:25 AM

What's the bet .... the courts will definitely give a ruling in favour of company on Monday....

    sanjaya Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:23 AM

reply to Lankatruth...its common sense... answer is
tobacco company... it power over executive... i mean what ever the executive is doing...finally they too bow down to the company

    Sanjaya

    munsir Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:22 AM

    ToyGun Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:20 AM

    Money, Money and Money!

    manahara Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:17 AM

who else... the tobacco companies.. they run the countries including this

The God Father Tuesday, 06 May 2014 07:01 AM

Except for the public Whoever you have mentioned do not want it, its a drama to gimmick the public, huge commissions they get from selling cigarettes mate.
