Sri Dharanee Performing Arts Theatre, a distinctive entertainment venue constructed to feature Sri Lankan traditional cultural dances for the tourism industry was ceremonially declared open at Water’s Edge on Friday (9) under the patronage of Megapolis and Western Development Minister Champika Ranawaka and Tourism Minister John Amaratunga. The Performing Arts Theatre, constructed by Green Leaves Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd will be another milestone achievement to the proposed mega private public joint venture surrounding the Diyawanna Lake. I have been to Sri Lanka several times and I love your cultural dances except the Kandian Dance where men in partially bare chest show their moves. To an outsider it looks both vulgar and comical.

It is a improvising of the original Kathakali dance from Kerala. It is culturally traditional and for a foreigner it could be boring or even at times offensive similar to some of the dances South Asians may view of the Western Dances.
