The country’s top political figures embroiled in political rivalry, cut across party lines yesterday to attend the farewell party hosted by outgoing Indian High Commissioner Taranjit Singh Sandhu at India House in Colombo. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe are seen a cordial discussion with UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa within the frame. I am Sri Lankan practicing Solicitor in England. From here the collective perspective on India is “It is an overpopulated poor country but also a dangerous place for the European women to travel”. Britain even provides India with financial assistance, as part of overseas aid, to build schools, water supplies and toilets, every year. But in my own country back in Sri Lanka, even an Indian High Commissioner leaving the post , is a major social event attended by the top Political figures in Sri Lanka. I blame the Sri Lankan diplomats at the London High Commission for not educating Sri Lankans about how the the world looks down on India.

I am not kidding, but the 'Licchavi Kingdom' was in our island. They had a better system of governance than the Westminster system where the toxicity displayed above is symptomatic.
