The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to give more time for tourist hotels to pay the Tourism Development Levy (TDL), in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks.
The TDL is charged at one percent on turnover. All tourist hotels registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority have to pay the TDL.
The Cabinet approval has been granted this week to suspend the TDL payments for a period of six months from January 1, 2019 and to allow tourist hotels to pay the arrears in 12 equal instalments.
The proposal in this regard was forwarded by Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga.
The Easter Sunday attacks on April 1 targeted churches and star-class hotels in Colombo, killing over 250 people including tourists.
