Charmarie Maelge has been appointed as the Managing Director Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) on May 23rd.
Charmarie has started her tourism career as the Director Marketing for the Tourist Board, subsequently taking over the roles of Director London Office in the UK and Director Research and International Affairs.
Thereafter, she has worked for the UK based Travel Foundation creating the Responsible Tourism Partnership in Sri Lanka. She has national and private sector experience in the tourism sector, also a certified trainer and assessor in tourism, currently she is on the visiting faculty of the Hospitality and Leisure Management Department of the University of Colombo.
Her work in a number of pivotal tourism sector roles in government, private sector and especially hands on experience in crisis management and recovery of tourism will be a valuable strength to SLTPB.
“Charmarie Maelge’s experience will be very valuable to the government and the tourism industry at this juncture and we arehappy to have her accepting this important role”, said Tourism Development, Wildlife & Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga.
Charmarie has a MBA and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Colombo Sri Lanka. She is a member of Chartered Institute of Marketing CIM UK and SLIM Sri Lanka.
