Sri Lanka is contemplating to open its airports for both local and foreign travellers from end of January after a 10-month long closure, the Ministry of Aviation and Investment Zone Development announced yesterday.
Having closed the airports to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, State Minister of Aviation and Investment Zone Development D.V. Chanaka said all the necessary health guidelines would be followed in this process.
He also said that Sri Lanka would learn from countries that have already started welcoming tourists and opening their airports.
The State Minister noted that they were able to carry out some significant refurbishment work at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) during the months it was closed due to coronavirus.
Sri Lanka is currently carrying out a pilot project with a group of Ukrainian tourists, who arrived in the island last week, to consider re-opening of its borders for tourists.

Only it will make a huge difference in spiking the number of COVID-19 patients and victims in the form of a New Year bonanza from the government.

I hope tourists will be able to mingle with the locals once they open up the airports to all/most countries. I don't see Sri Lanka benefiting from the opening of the airports if they proceed to have the tourists abide by such strict and harsh rules. Not being able to travel freely after taking 2 covid tests and 1 week in hotel quarantine, all while shelling out hundreds and hundreds of dollars to be patrolled and escorted around like kids, it WILL deter a lot of people. Why pay thousands of dollars for such a terrible trip when the Maldives next door has free visa and free travel around the country after 1 week in quarantine?? Based on the "health guidelines" being imposed on tourists right now, Sri Lanka seems purely money hungry. Y'all need to wake up and smell the opportunity to be one of the first countries to benefit from early tourists and people eager to travel!!

Sure.. why don't you just get all the poor people in line who can't afford an ICU bed with a ventilator and then shoot them in the head. Did you know that the whole of Sri Lanka with a population of 22 million have only got less than 500 ICU beds available. It's been one year and not a single private or public hospital has increased their capacity.

Those who received the vaccines should be allowed to enter without any quarantine period. Have they thought about a process for the vaccinated people?
