Democratic National Alliance (DNA) MPs Vijitha Herath and Ajith Kumara, who were arrested last evening over charges of assaulting police officers in Galle, have been remanded till next week.
The police charged that the two Parliamentarians assaulted the policemen after arriving at the Galle police station last evening to secure the release of four protesters who were taken into custody by the police during the clash which erupted in Galle yesterday.
The two MPs were later arrested for assaulting the police officers. (Daily Mirror online)

Pure pressure on the opposition parliamentarians by the GOSL. These intimidation's and threats would intensify until they have their 2/3 in the parliament.
Soon we would be like China, One party democracy.

Democracy is at risk when demonstrations turn violent.

This is a clear demonstration of the type of autocratic rule we have in our country. How can we show the world that we are a democratic nation? Haven't our rulers learnt lessons from our recent past that this method is very short lived?

I like to go to the police to make a complaint regarding a financial transaction issue with another person, but i gave up that idea now to go to the police station.

When an armed officer of their own kind is assaulted, the police are keen to take legal action, but when an unarmed public officer who is unable to defend himself against abuse is assaulted, in front of the police, they turn a blind eye and have still not arrested the lunatic offender despite him roaming in the open under police protection. Is the law there to protect the innocent civilian or armed officers, thugs, goons and power hungry politicians? His excellency the president should have taken action against the policemen who watched over and encouraged the Kelaniya episode before sending the minister home. The minister is a fool to do such things and we all know it, but the police inaction and encouragement was to please foolish tendencies of a politician. It is time we all stand up against fooling of the public by the holders of power.
