Main opposition UNP today charged that the Government was trying to militarise schools by giving military training and military ranks to school principals.

Kurunegala district UNP MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the Government was also trying to suppress people protests over education blunders by installing principals with military training.
“The government is using various means to stop people from taking to the streets and highlighting the mistakes and blunders in Sri Lanka’s education system,” he said.

Mr. Kariyawasam said what happened in universities would also happen in schools with education being gradually ruined.
“We are asking the Government not to destroy the future of these children. Already the value and depth of the free education system and exams have been destroyed,” he said and added that the government destroying democracy and moving towards militarization. (NC)

Principals become Army Commanders, the students will become Army Soldiers - then we should have a war to give them jobs. What a policy SL Govt. has.

Good idea, School Principals to carry AK 47 to control students. If this happends the students have to carry advanced weapons than the principals carry. Am I correct?

Future of the undergraduates have already been destroyed with cancellation of lectures due to non academic staff continuous strike and FUTA strike. Will the lecturers ever cover what the undergrads have missed?
The future of the students who sat for the GCE A/Ls is also bleak due to non availability of correct results yet after sitting for the exam almost a year ago.

If school Principles become Generals, Teachers become Lieutenants and children become soldiers... looks like our big match 'BATTLE of the Maroons' is going to have a little more than fire works in the future!!! ;-)
