The opposition- led Vipakshaye Virodaya today said the ongoing tussle among political forces on the 13th Amendment to the Constitution resulting in the arousal of communalism would  automatically lead to a separate state.

UNP Assistant Leader Joseph Michael Perera told a news conference that the confrontation to over the scrapping of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in particular would ultimately create a situation where the separatists would achieve their objective overnight. “This will help pro separatists to gain what Prabahakaran could not achieve in the 30 year old war,” he said.

He said parties which oppose the scrapping of the 13th Amendment including the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) should leave the government. He said they cannot remain in the government when they oppose anything because of the collective responsibility.

At the same time he said the government should make a firm decision on the 13th Amendment and inform the people of its official stand. (YP)
