Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa informed Prime Minister D. M Jayaratna and opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe today to name their respective members to the Parliament Council created under the 18th Amendment to the constitution.

The Speaker has given the two sides one week to propose members for the Council which replaces the independent commission under the 17th Amendment to the constitution.

    One question please! If the president could refrain from appointing members to constitutional council contravening 17 amendment, why can not Opposition leader refrain from proposing any name under 18 A?

    Yes Suwimal you are right the opposition should refrain from appointing a member which will give legality to this council which is not independent
