At least 118 people allegedly detained over their suspected LTTE involvement were released from prison today. They were released on the submission by the Attorney Genera’s Department that the suspects did not have charges against them.
Another 70 youths who were also in detention were referred to rehabilitation since they had been allegedly involved in minor incidents connected with the LTTE.

The govt. shouldn't do anything on the eve of election. Shouldn't we have a govt. during elections? What would happen to the security of the nation if we have a govt. that won't function during elections? Even if the incumbent resigns for elections the interim govt. can also be blamed for partiality and increased violence like that happen in several countries having that provision eg. Bangladesh! Don't get overcharged with false alarms and suspicious alerts!

If there are no charges, perhaps they should be released. But the timing is not appropriate. Most actions are taken in view of the election.
