A three hour operation to remove the 24 nails inserted in a housemaid by her Saudi employer was conducted at the Andhapana Hospital in Matara this morning and doctors removed 18 nails from her body

Two surgeons and two anesthetics along with a 15 member medical staff were involved in the surgery to remove the nails inserted in the housemaid’s body. (Daily Mirror online)

Inserting nails into one's own body is also a common form of self-mutilation, seen in victims of stress. Hopefully this will be investigated by forensic physicians and will not just be a "trial by the media."

If this had happened in a Western country our politicians would have been clamoring on the streets of Colombo, by now, calling for their blood, with all sorts of racists remarks. But they are cowards when it comes to Saudi Arabia. So much for justice!

The Saudi should not be pardoned if he or anyone has tortured this innocent lady. At the same time it should be checked by scientific means when these nails entered her body.

Are we just going to criticize her former boss and stop there? How about through DAILY MIRROR we collect some money for her to make sure that she never needs to go to another country for employment? If Daily Mirror initiates it am sure this will work.
